Looking back, 2021 has – to say the least – been a very tumultuous year. There is no wish to dwell on all the painful details here: the complexities of supply chain disruptions, material and component scarcities and many other logistical and commercial difficulties really bear no repetition.
However, I take a couple of crumbs of comfort from the end of this year’s calendar. The first is the uplift in networking and business circulation – as demonstrated by the successful Fakuma 2021 exhibition and also the prestigious annual Medica/Compamed show in Düsseldorf. The WITTMANN Group put down strong technology at both these events, attracting much attention.
The Fakuma 2021 show in particular showed off the richness of the WITTMANN new product portfolio – with the spirit of WITTMANN innovation continuing to embrace every aspect of the molding process; not least in the further development of the SmartPlus injection molding machine.
For me the really heartening thing about WITTMANN’s Fakuma 2021 portfolio is the way in which the company so clearly and explicitly aligns its technology in the service of our global social and economic agenda: it is more than possible, for example, that 2022 will be the year of energy issues and energy conservation – even trumping considerations of the pandemic.
For decades now, WITTMANN has been proclaiming the energy saving and energy monitoring gospel. Everything the company does is guided by this principle. And – increasingly – WITTMANN’s customers, old and new, are coming to see the light and realize the good sense – and the urgency – of the energy-saving approach.
This environmental leadership is also good news for plastics processing generally. When it can be proved beyond doubt that plastics is significantly less energy intensive than alternative materials, then we may finally begin to see some change in the unfair public scapegoating of the material in the past decades.
All of these facts and issues and more are available in the latest “innovations” magazine from WITTMANN – a publication that manages to look as fresh and relevant and newsworthy as ever. Please click here to read online.
Finally, for myself may I wish all WITTMANN website readers a very happy and restful holiday period – to return energized and hopeful for the challenges of 2022.
